Alan Godfrey

Alan Godfrey has 15+ years of experience establishing and leading analytical risk management teams to support the specialist (re)insurance industry.

He began his career at Amlin PLC, handed responsibility to setup a small catastrophe modeling team, which over 11 years became a global department driving business decisions for property natural catastrophe and marine risks.
Moving to Asta Managing Agency in 2015, he deployed his experience in a solo consultancy role, overseeing the development of exposure management teams across 10 Lloyd’s syndicates, and 3 MGAs; becoming more active in the wider profession, leading market education events on behalf of the ISCM.
Alan joined AXIS Capital in 2019 to establish and lead teams focused on the new frontiers of exposure management: cyber and casualty risk. In 2022, Alan joined Sompo International in a newly-created role of Exposure Management Principal, overseeing Natural Catastrophe, Cyber, Manmade and Systemic risks.

Through his ongoing involvement in market groups, Alan has led the authoring of two white papers: “Uncertainty in Catastrophe Modelling” (2016) and “Guide for Non-Cat Modellers” (2013).

Alan has an M.A. (cantab) in Mathematics from Trinity Hall, Cambridge University, and holds a CCRMP designation. When not working, Alan spends his time with his wife and daughter, and takes any opportunity to develop his passion for photography.
