Peter Zimmerli

Peter Zimmerli currently acts as Head of Exposure Management at Axis Re, having held prior positions in Nat Cat and Cyber risk assessment. Up to 2018, Peter was responsible for developing Swiss Re’s proprietary cat models and defining the corresponding view of risk for all wind related perils globally, leading a multi-national team with employees located in Zurich, New York, Munich and Bangalore. Prior to this, Peter was based in Hong Kong for 4 years, managing catastrophe risks across Asia. Through projects and internal assignments, Peter has assumed roles in property treaty/single-risk underwriting (Munich, Madrid, Tokyo, Sydney, London), product development (cat bonds, parametric insurance), regulatory model approval (Solvency II, Swiss Solvency), portfolio steering, post-event loss estimation and strategy development.

Peter has been a spokesperson at cat insurance industry events and contributed to publications for many years, both on the topic of natural catastrophes and cyber risk.

Peter started his career at Winterthur Insurance (now part of Axa/XL Group) and at the ETH research center “Institute of Snow, Landscape and Avalanches”.

Peter is an active member of the International Society of Catastrophe Managers (ISCM). He holds a Master of Science in Geology from the University of Zurich, is an ERASMUS alumni from the University of Barcelona and holds a CAS in Cyber Security and in Data Science from the ETH Zurich and FHNW, respectively. Peter holds the CCRMP designation.
